Ongoing Opportunities

Children and Worship
Children’s Worship is offered during both morning worship services for children ages three through first grade. Children leave the worship service following the Children’s Message and go to room 121 to continue in worship in a service specially designed for them. Our worship time is child-directed, experiential and guided by the liturgical calendar. Nursery care is provided for children ages six weeks to two years. Children of all ages who wish to remain in the worship service are welcome to do so. Each Sunday, children participate in worship leadership as well. Our acolyte program prepares third through sixth graders to light the candles in the worship service, and older children are invited to read Scripture. Children’s Sunday, celebrated every year, features children leading worship.

Sunday School
Sunday School is held for children of all ages each Sunday morning at 9:45. The children’s Sunday School classrooms are on the south side of the lower level of the building – click the link for a map of the facility to see the various locations. Trained teachers accompany the children on their journey through the Bible with activities, storytime, snacks and crafts.

Wednesday Night Together
Children’s choirs for three year olds through sixth graders meet from 6:15-6:45 pm from August through May :

  • Mustard Seed (three year olds through pre-K)
  • Angel Choir (kindergarteners through second graders)
  • Spirit Singers (third through sixth graders)

From 6:45-7:30, children participate in a weekly rotation of mission activities, crafts and games.

BANANA Club (Believers Are Never Alone Nor Abandoned)
BANANA Club is special time of fellowship and discipleship training  for fifth and sixth graders. It typically meets twice a month on Sunday evening from 5:30-7:00. Dinner is provided by the parents, and the children participate in games, activities and small group time. See our separate page for the current calendar of events!

Confirmation
Confirmation Classes for sixth graders, led by Rev. Nancy Speas Hill and Rev. Kathy Noble, are held from October through May of each year. Through class sessions and field trips young people explore their faith and learn about United Methodist beliefs. Confirmands work with mentors outside of class.

Adopt-a-Grandparent
The Adopt-a-Grandparent Program links children with older adults in the church. Each year the children and adults indicate their interest in our program by signing up and suggesting whom they would like to adopt. The program begins in February. Children and adults are linked for one year. The Children’s Ministry team plans several special events throughout the year to promote this inter-generational program.
